Building your legal career: how to gain QWE

Date: 17 November, 6pm

Thinking about becoming a solicitor but unsure how to gain qualifying work experience (QWE)?

Join us for a practical careers panel exploring the different routes into legal practice, from vacation schemes and training contracts to paralegal roles and solicitor apprenticeships.

Hear from Callum Ramsay, HR Business Partner at Capsticks, who will share insights into the firm's approach to recruiting future trainees, including vacation schemes and training contracts, and what employers look for in candidates.

Angela Lechner, Trainee Solicitor at Dutton Gregory, will share her journey from completing her LLB and securing a paralegal role to progressing onto the firm's graduate solicitor apprenticeship programme. Having passed SQE1, Angela is now working towards SQE2 and will discuss how she gained her opportunities and how her experience is helping her progress towards qualification.

We'll also be joined by Steve Sutherland, Solicitor and Legal Training Manager at Ramsdens Solicitors, who will share the firm's approach to recruitment and developing future legal professionals. Having also provided supervision to students at The College of Legal Practice, Steve can offer insights into the importance of workplace experience, supervision and support when working towards qualification.

Whether you're just starting out or considering your next career step, this session will offer practical advice, insights into different routes into the profession and an opportunity to ask your questions.
