Policies & Procedures
The Academic Regulatory Framework
The Academic Regulatory Framework explains how your studies at the College are organised, assessed, and supported.
It sets out the rules, policies, and procedures that guide your experience as a student or apprentice, including what’s expected of you, what you can expect from the College, and how academic decisions are made fairly and consistently.
If you’re unsure about a deadline, extension, appeal, engagement requirement, progression decision, or your responsibilities, this should be your first point of reference.
You do not need to read it in full. Use the contents page to go straight to the section relevant to your situation. Student Services can help you understand the Framework, but all decisions are made in line with the published regulations, policies, and procedures.
Common student questions
I’m struggling to meet an assessment deadline – what should I do?
Check the Exceptional Circumstances Policy (A6). It explains when you can request an extension, postponement, or deferral, what counts as an exceptional circumstance, and what evidence you may need to provide.
I have a disability or long-term condition – how do I get support?
See the Reasonable Adjustments Policy (A5). This explains the support available, what adjustments the College can offer, how to apply, and when you should submit your request.
I need to pause my studies – what are my options?
Read the Leave of Absence Policy (A7). It sets out when you can take a break from your studies, how long it can last, and how this affects your programme and funding.
What happens if I stop engaging with my studies?
The Academic Engagement and Attendance Policy (A9) explains what counts as engagement, how we monitor it, the support we offer if you disengage, and when withdrawal may occur.
I don’t agree with a decision the College has made – can I challenge it?
Start with the Academic Appeals Policy (A13) if the issue relates to an academic decision, or the Student Complaints Policy (A14) if you are unhappy with a service or process. Each policy explains the grounds, timescales, and steps involved.
How are my marks and final award decided?
See Programme Regulations, Section B, particularly B3 Determining Module Outcomes and B4 Determining Programme Outcomes, which explain pass marks, progression, and award classifications.
What are my responsibilities as a student?
The Student Charter and Code of Conduct (A10) sets out expected standards of behaviour, engagement, and professionalism, and explains what may happen if those standards are not met.
What happens if my circumstances affect my behaviour or engagement?
The Fitness to Study Policy (A8) explains how the College supports students where health or wellbeing is affecting their ability to study, and when this approach is used instead of disciplinary action.
