Getting your lawyers qualified
We can collaborate with you to create a SQE programme that meet the needs of your organisation. We provide the best platform to help your trainees qualify and progress as legal professionals. Our Developing Legal Professionals Programme will both help prepare them to pass the SQE and develop the transactional and business skills and competencies they need to succeed in the industry.
Our Developing Legal Professionals Programme includes two modules that prepare students to pass the SQE, timed to be delivered in alignment with the SQE schedule as set by the SRA:
- Solicitors Legal Knowledge (SLK) – preparation for SQE1
- Solicitors Legal Skills (SLS) – preparation for SQE2
In addition to SQE preparation modules, we also offer transactional and business skills modules across core practice areas:
- Acquisitions & Finance
- Commercial Law
- Commercial Property
- Dispute Resolution
- Employment Law
- Family Law
- Intellectual Property
- O Shaped Skills
- Personal Injury
- Legal Business Skills
Students can take a combination of modules in a full LLM in Legal Practice that both fully prepares them to pass the SQE and for work as a qualified solicitor. We can work with you to design a tailored programme that works for your trainees and your organisation.
Graduate Foundation in Law
- Focused foundation course for non-law graduates running full-time and part-time, prior to SQE1 Preparation courses.
- Full-time and part-time courses running twice a year.
- Full-time and part-time courses running for every SQE2 assessment.
LLM in Legal Practice (inc. SQE Prep)
- Full-time and part-time courses running twice a year to align with SQE assessments.
- Includes Unique O Shaped Skills module, created in collaboration with The O Shaped Lawyer.
The College of Legal Practice’s approach to learning is grounded in real-world legal practice, which makes it a perfect fit with our own training philosophy. It is important to us that its tutors are practising solicitors as they understand our needs as a firm, as well as how best to guide and support our trainees in their learning. We work closely with The College of Legal Practice to identify the knowledge and the skills required for our trainees to succeed in the legal profession. As these requirements change and evolve, the courses will change too, meaning the time our trainees spend learning with The College of Legal Practice remains practical, valuable and relevant.
Developing Employee & SOLICITOR Skills
Becoming the best legal services professional requires knowledge, experience, and a constant drive to learn.
Designed for solicitors in their first five years of practice, working in both private practice and in-house, our Legal Services Professionals programme delivers a series of practice-focused modules to help your employees build stronger transactional, managerial and client-facing skills.
EXAMPLE SQE TRAINING PROGRAMME
Acuity Law are one of the first firms to offer a range of qualification routes that incorporates SQE preparation training for their trainees starting in autumn 2022. Training contracts include a SQE generalist and specialist trainee programmes, and a programme for non-law graduates.
The training provided by The College of Legal Practice integrates with the trainees’ work experience, giving trainees opportunities to start legal work within the firm before completing their SQE2 study and assessments.
“Acuity recognises the importance of creating more open and innovative pathways for candidates to join the legal industry and develop their careers in different ways. The “one fits all approach” of the traditional training contract limits both law firms and candidates and we want to break those traditional barriers."
"We are delighted to be working with The College of Legal Practice to facilitate our new training programmes and the opportunities ahead for our future lawyers.” Claire Knowles, Senior Employment Partner
EXAMPLE SQE UNIVERSITY PARTNERSHIP
Solent Law School
Solent Law School is one of the first Law Schools in the country to offer preparation training for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) as part of their undergraduate law degree.
The LLB module is delivered by The College of Legal Practice, as an optional third year module.
The Solicitors Legal Knowledge module will prepare students for the first SQE assessment, SQE1. The student can choose whether to take the SQE assessment in July, improving their career prospects and setting on them on a path to qualification.
