The College of Legal Practice is delighted that Clarke Wilmott’s most talented paralegals will be studying for the SQE with the College. Clarke Wilmott have taken a different and refreshing approach to recruiting their trainees, offering their most promising paralegals the opportunity to qualify via the SQE.

As a modern and innovative legal services provider, Clarke Wilmott have committed to funding SQE preparation courses run by The College of Legal Practice, that are ideal for the working legal professional. Alongside SQE preparation training, their trainees will learn and apply The O Shaped Lawyer competencies and develop their transactional skills through electives in relevant practice areas. The first cohort of trainees, as many of them already have their Qualifying Work Experience (QWE), could be solicitors by summer 2024.

Clarke Wilmott were attracted to the College’s SQE offering due to its expertise in designing online learning and focus on individual supervision for every trainee. The O Shaped Skills module was also a factor in ensuring that their paralegals are developing the business and human skills needed for today’s legal environment. 11 of their trainees have already been studying with the College on a 12-week O Shaped Skills module prior to starting their SQE preparation this month.

Daniel Jones, HR Director from Clarke Wilmott said “Clarke Wilmott recognises that the SQE route to becoming a solicitor gives us opportunities for development of our paralegals, who are already committed to the business and delivering value for our clients. It also supports our work in encouraging wider participation in the profession by removing the barriers to entry. The College of Legal Practice’s flexible and high-quality training made them our natural partner and we have been impressed in their SQE expertise, collaboration and support so far.”

Dr Giles Proctor, CEO of the College added: “We are very pleased to be working with Clarke Wilmott, who are leading the way using the SQE to focus on retaining and developing their internal talent. The engagement from partners and colleagues across the business has been tremendous so far, there is a great appetite for implementing a successful SQE Programme.”
