The College of Legal Practice continues to build stronger university partnerships in this new academic year. New partner universities across the UK are delivering its SQE preparation through a variety of Masters’ programmes and other collaborations. The College combines their higher education and SQE expertise to offer accredited online modules, prep materials and assessments, tailored to each University’s curriculum and delivery needs.
York Law School’s innovative LLM in Professional Practice has commenced this academic year. Professor Scott Slorach, Director of Learning & Teaching at York Law School comments:
“We are excited to have welcomed our first cohort of LLM in Professional Legal Practice (SQE1 & SQE2) students this month, with graduates from York, around the UK, and the world. For our SQE1 training we are integrating the College's wide range of practice area resources and MCQs, with York Law School's experience in designing transactional and problem-based learning. High quality professional training programmes for exams such as the SQE are complex to design and deliver. Working in partnership with the College, their experience and support has been an invaluable part of that development process”.
The College of Legal Practice’s partnership with Solent Law School has evolved into offering SQE preparation as part of a full LLM in Professional Practice for the first time this year. One of their existing SQE programmes, run in the final year of the Solent Law School’s LLB degree, is also being expanded as part of a new LLM for postgraduates at Solent. As Brad Kershaw, LLM Programme Leader, Solent Law School, comments:
"Solent Law School has worked alongside The College of Legal Practice for many years now offering innovative and flexible SQE Preparation to our undergraduates. Not only does the College provide an outstanding learning experience for our students, but their pastoral focus when it comes to students and diligence as a partner of the Law School sets them apart. We're absolutely delighted to have expanded our offering with the College to provide an LLM in Professional Legal Practice offering affordable, flexible, high quality SQE Preparation to students who aspire to become legal professionals."
Meanwhile, The University of Winchester’s Law School are taking their LLM is into its second year and building momentum after positive feedback. Bill Davies, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Crime and Justice at Winchester, praises the user-friendliness of the new course which met the needs of the modern student.
“Students particularly like the hybrid nature of the course. With one day per week on campus and the rest online, students get the best of both worlds,”
Bill also outlines the programmes structure as a key component of its success
“The University of Winchester has had a successful first year in partnership with the College of Legal Practice offering the LLM in Legal Practice. Students spend a third of their programme undertaking advanced study exploring the relationship between law, the state, and the individual, reflecting on theory and practice. A third of their programme is spent undertaking a work placement or an independent research project. Complementing this, The College of Legal Practice delivers the remaining third of the programme, providing specialist up-to-date preparation for the SQE1 and 2 assessments.
Looking forward to next year, Bill went on to say:
“We have been delighted with the success of the LLM in Legal Practice at Winchester and are looking forward to further developing our partnership with College of Legal Practice next year when we launch our new LLM Law (Conversion).”
The College is pleased to announce a new partnership with the University of Worcester for 2026, the first of several UK and international partnerships to be announced in the coming months. The College and the University have teamed up to offer a new Master of Laws programme. This programme will be taught by expert lecturers from the University of Worcester, with the SQE1 and SQE2 online preparation provided by The College of Legal Practice.
Danielle Hopton-Jones, LLM Course Leader at the University of Worcester says “We are incredibly excited to launch our new LLM which offers students the best comprehensive tuition for SQE from The College of Legal Practice, alongside specialist knowledge and practical skills in dynamic practice-based modules delivered by experts at the University of Worcester. This course responds to the current needs of employers and is entirely practice-focussed. We are determined that Worcester graduates will thrive in the legal community, following in the footsteps of our high-achieving alumni.”
Giles Proctor, CEO of the College reflects on these growing partnerships: “We are delighted to be partnering with universities to provide more opportunities for their students to progress their legal career development. As a Higher Education institution, we have much in common with the Universities particularly providing both the quality of learning and the pastoral care and guidance students need to work through the SQE syllabus. These partnerships are giving students much more choice in the market than existed under the old regime of the LPC where two main providers captured most of the market. This can only be a good thing in addressing the diverse needs of students who want to progress a career in the legal profession”
