In this article, Jane Waddell is Head of Curriculum at the College, discusses the support we offer to students on our SQE prep courses with a particular lens to those balancing their studies with other life commitments.
As a fully online, flexible postgraduate college, our pedagogy aligns well with students who have multiple life commitments. Our students are often juggling a full or part-time job, childcare, health needs and/or caring responsibilities alongside their study. We have built our courses with exactly this in mind, with ample support and consideration for your life outside of law. In this article, I’ll explore the breadth of support we have in place for our SQE prep students.
A bespoke curriculum designed around flexibility
Our curriculum was only ever designed with the SQE in mind. We’ve not shifted and lifted from old courses - it was designed to be online. It’s consistent and all the materials we give you assume you are working remotely, online, around your own schedule. Ample analytics to keep you on track
As we’re online, our learning platform is easily trackable. Personal tutors can see what
you’ve submitted, where you’re up to on your mock exams, and use that data to offer bespoke advice to your specific needs and situations. You can also re-examine your mocks and where you did well and need to improve. We don’t need to waste precious time on generic advice - everything we do is informed by your specific data and progress and you can self-reflect on it too.
We’re experts at the balance
From day one, we have been fully online. We work on a flexible-first basis and we’re experts at helping you fit learning around life. Every student has that level of support and understanding from the get go. You will need to complete the learning to weekly not daily timetables and deadlines. Much of the learning is also recorded, although we always recommend joining it live if you can!
We’re also experts in each subject. As we work from home too, we can bring in legal experts from across the UK with a diverse range of experiences across the 13 practice areas you cover in the SQE. This means that every academic you meet has a depth and breadth of knowledge to offer you, so no time is wasted.
Competitively priced
We want our course to be as accessible to as many people as possible, so we’ve priced it competitively, with our SQE preparation modules starting at £2,200. By being fully online, we can provide a very affordable price point so that SQE Prep is not only practical for your life, but your finances too.
A range of course lengths
Our courses have a variety of lengths. Students can choose the full-time courses for 10 or 13 weeks or longer length courses for 20 or 40 weeks. They are all scheduled to fit your preferred timeframes for taking the SQE exams, and the time that you have to spare. If you are juggling multiple commitments we recommend taking our longest course, the 40 week option. We are seeing great results for our working students on these courses. This option requires less time from you each week, 10 study hours a week, and allows you to spread the knowledge base over a longer period.
